Ankle pain is a common symptom that affects people of all ages and activity levels. It can result from overuse, injury, arthritis, nerve irritation, or other conditions. Because the ankle plays a major role in running, walking, and supporting your body weight, even a small discomfort can affect your mobility and quality of life. At Care Podiatry, we check the cause of your ankle pain and create a treatment plan for other ankle issues as well. To relieve discomfort, restore function, and prevent any problems.

Ankle Pain We Commonly Treat at Care Podiatry

Injuries

Injury is one of the most frequent causes of ankle pain. It includes fractures, strains, tendonitis, or sprained ligaments. These usually happen during playing sports, sudden movements, or slips and falls.

Overuse and Repetitive Stress

Some activities repeatedly stress the ankle. Those include jumping, running, or long walking. These can cause irritation and inflammation of muscles, tendons, or joints.

Arthritis

The condition can cause inflammation of joints. It leads to pain, stiffness, and limited movements. The most common forms include –

Gout

It is a form of inflammatory arthritis that is caused by crystal deposits in the joints. Gout attacks can cause sudden, intense ankle pain that usually occurs at night.

Infection and Other Condition

Although infections, nerve irritation, or circulatory problems are less common, these can cause ankle pain.

What Are The Symptoms to Look For

Ankle pain, when not caused by a sprain or a fracture, is usually experienced as a dull ache that increases with pressure or excessive body weight. Because our ankles are quite complex, if we consider their structure. So, ankle pain symptoms feel different in most areas. About 25,000 people in the United States experience ankle pain each day.

The condition even affects people of all ages. Some of the common symptoms include stiffness, tenderness, swelling, and difficulty bearing weight on the affected foot. However, in most cases, you also get bruises.

At Care Podiatry, we recommend most of our patients for effective management, as ankle pain can even arise from sprains and chronic conditions. We help you to know the root cause before providing you with the treatment plan to help you with better recovery.

How We Diagnose Ankle Pain

At Care Podiatry, we check your medical history, perform a physical examination, conduct imaging, and gait and strength analysis.

What Treatment Options Do We Provide

We recommend rest and adjustments to your daily activities. You can even get medications or supportive devices. If these don’t work, then we suggest injections and therapies, but in severe cases, surgical options are a must.

Who Is At Higher Risk

What Are The Preventive Tips To Follow

Wear comfortable footwear no matter where you go. Avoid uneven or slippery surfaces. Do warm up before exercise and increase activity intensity to strengthen your ankle and leg muscles. However, if these don’t work, visit our offices in Anaheim or Lakewood, CA. We can help you get the right diagnosis and treatment options.

I took my daughter here for a sports related injury. The guys at the urgent care did not do a thorough exam they just listened to the symptoms and said she had shin splints. DR Maijala on the other hand really took his time to figure out what was wrong. He has a great foot-side manner. I would highly recommend him.
